My Car Life is your vehicle's maintenance logbook. Track every service, stay on top of what's due, and see exactly what you've spent — all stored locally on your device.
Data & Privacy
How is my data stored?
All your vehicle and maintenance data is stored locally on your device only. Nothing is sent to any server — your data never leaves your phone.
How do I back up my data?
Go to Settings → Export Data to save a JSON file of all your vehicles and service history to your device.
How do I restore from a backup?
Go to Settings → Import Data and select your exported JSON file. Your vehicles and all their data will be restored.
I lost my data after reinstalling. Can I recover it?
Data is stored on-device only and cannot be recovered after uninstalling. Export a backup from Settings regularly, especially before switching devices.
Security
What is PIN lock?
You can set a 4-digit PIN in Settings → PIN Lock to require a PIN each time the app opens. To change or remove your PIN, visit the same screen.
How do I reset the app?
Go to Settings → Wipe All Data to permanently delete all vehicles and service history. This cannot be undone — export a backup first if needed.
Features
How do I add a vehicle?
Tap the + button at the top right of the My Cars tab. Fill in the vehicle name, year, make, model, VIN, license plate, and other details. You can edit any field at any time from the Vehicle tab inside the car's detail view.
What is the Schedule tab?
The Schedule tab lists all maintenance items for a vehicle — oil change, tire rotation, registration, insurance, and more. Each item shows its due status (overdue, due soon, or up to date) based on mileage and time intervals. Long-press any item to log an event or mark it as checked.
How do I log a service event?
Open a vehicle, go to the Log tab, and tap + Log Event. You can link the event to a scheduled item or enter a custom name, along with date, mileage, cost, shop, tags, and notes.
What does "Mark as Checked" do?
Long-press a schedule item and choose Mark as Checked to log a $0 entry with today's date. This clears the "No history" flag and resets the item's due date from today — useful for items you've recently checked but didn't need to service.
What is the All Items tab?
All Items shows every maintenance schedule item across all your vehicles in one flat list, sorted by urgency — overdue first, then due soon, then up to date. Use the filter chips at the top to narrow by status.
What does the KPI tab show?
The KPI tab is your maintenance dashboard — total spent, this year's spend, this month's spend, tasks due, and estimated annual cost. When you have multiple vehicles it shows a combined summary plus a breakdown per vehicle. Tap any section header to collapse or expand it.
How does due-status work when an item has both mileage and time intervals?
My Car Life uses the most lenient of the two intervals. If you recently serviced a vehicle within the time window, the item will not show as overdue even if the mileage threshold has been crossed.
Appearance
Can I use dark mode?
Yes. Go to Settings → Appearance and choose Light, Dark, or Automatic (follows your device setting).
